Cosby grew up in the Germantown neighborhood of Philadelphia as the oldest son of four. At first, indeed Cosbys okay financially, but their fate began to slip as Cosby’s father, William, Sr., started drinking. More interested in sports than academics, Cosby played on the school track and football teams. He was placed in a high school for gifted students after high scores on IQ tests. Bill Cosby has been on television for so long, usually in a rather silly sitcoms or advertisements for Jello, it’s easy to forget that he used to be funny, okay face  and humor. Cosby has never worked as an actor, but NBC brass realize that the appeal is broader than just black and white. So, Cosby was hired to play the spy, sexy intelligent opposite Robert Culp in the mid-1960s adventure show I Spy. After a tour of duty, he earned his equivalency diploma through correspondence courses, and quick feet that got him to Temple University on a track-and-field scholarship when he was 23, but dropped out to pursue show business. His early stand-up routine begins with a night club on “Fat Albert” and “Old Weird Harold”.
